How about admitting that you love fashion trends? Yes, dear, I know it sounds crazy at first, but think about it. Lately it has been more than cool to deny the love for fashion. Everyone is praising style, basic wardrobe must-haves and the "black is the new black" phenomenon, but then again... As a regular visitor (or should I say maniac?) of fashion blogs I read it too often how pretty ladies dressed in the latest high street fashion pieces don't like fashion trends. Quoting Yves Saint Loren, Coco Chanel or Carrie Bradshaw about never fading style is cool, but it does not make an outfit of a Zara skirt mixed with vintage top and haute couture bag less trendy or fashion.
Mi lenne, ha beismernénk, imádjuk a divatot? Tudom, tudom, első hallásra furán hangzik, de gondolj csak bele, milyen felszabadító érzés lenne. Az utóbbi időben divatblogokat olvasva észrevettem, hogy H&M/Zara/Asos/Urban Outfitter stb. ruhákban pózoló lányok vallják azt magukról, ők bizony utálják a divatot, nekik mindenük a stílus. A divat nagyjaitól idéznek a soha nem halványuló stílusérzékről, talán önáltatás, talán egy újabb divathullám eredményeként. Mindenki az örökzöld gardrób-összetevőkről beszél, magasztalja a francia nőket és ódákat zeng a stílusról, de ettől még nem lesz egy Zara szoknya, vintage felső, haute couture táska kombó kevésbé mainstream.
The thing is: those quotes by the famous fashion crowd were not meant to make people turn away from fashion trends. YSL, Madmasoille Coco, Karl Lagerfeld, Isabell Marant and all the other big names are making fashion and creating trends for living and even though they dread the word "commerce", in the end this is what counts: what sells becomes fashion, what doesn't, that goes down the fashion drain. I know it is tempting to say: "fashion trends bore me, I created my own style which is far away from all recent trends" but we all know it is not true. If you go to Lookbook.nu you see young people with great style but all outfits are influenced by one of the recent fashion trends. Even though it is a mistake to mix up style with fashion, fashion was and will always remain the base of what we find stylish. There are pieces such as the little black jacket created by Coco Chanel or one of those fabulous red-soled high heels from YSL that will be considered stylish forever and it’s because they count as fashionable items season by season.
Now I don't say fashion is above style. My point is that admitting that we love fashion trends is not un-cool at all. It does not make you a stupid girl/boy who only cares about clothes and shoes and shopping. It does not mean you are mainstream or not stylish enough. Moreover, under no circumstances should you be ashamed that you adore fashion; you care about clothes, and your appearance. If your hobby is not (just) visiting museums to enjoy art pieces but also checking online shops to create your outfits for the next season, then good for you! Don't let anyone make you think that you are only the victim of the evil consumer society. As Carrie Bradshaw told once a girl has the right to her shoes.
Az a helyzet, hogy a stílusról szóló idézetek kiötlői egyáltalán nem voltak a divat ellen. Sőt mi több, ebből keresték/keresik meg a kenyérre-, (meg a luxusnyaralóra) valót. Hiába tartanak a kommersz szótól, végül mégis csak az számít, hogy miből mennyit tudnak eladni. Népszerű manapság azt mondani, hogy "utálom a divatot, nekem megvan a saját stílusom". Minden egyes "saját stílust" befolyásol egy divatirányzat, legyen az egy szett szögecses bakanccsal vagy rózsaszín körömcipővel. A divatot nem szabad ugyan összekeverni a stílussal, arról sem illik megfeledkezni azonban, hogy a stílus is a divatból táplálkozik: minden örökzöld darab azért stílusos, mert divatosnak számít.
Nem arról van szó, hogy a divat több a stílusnál. A divatért érzett heves érzelmek beismerése nem jár azzal, hogy egy agyatlan, buta lány (vagy fiú) vagy, akit semmi más nem érdekel, csak a vásárlás, a ruhák és a cipők. Azt sem jelenti, hogy nem lehetsz egyedi vagy éppen nincs stílusod. Továbbá senkinek sincs joga azért elítélni, mert nem csak a múzeumokért, zenéért, könyvekért és filmekért vagy oda, hanem szívesen töltesz el órákat azzal, hogy összeállítsd a következő szezon legjobb öltözékeit. Nem kell elhinned, hogy bűn és butaság, amit csinálsz és csak a fogyasztói társadalom áldozata vagy. Ha ebben leled örömöd, hát hajrá! Ahogy Carrie Bradshaw is megjegyezte, amikor lenyúlták a Manoloját: egy lánynak megvan a joga a saját cipőihez.
Who is better example to this topic than the great Anna Dello Russo? First thing she says on her blog: I don't want to be cool, I want to be fashion. She admits fashion is her keepsake, she keeps her clothes in strict order and she loves to change three times on a normal fashion week day. If ADR can afford the luxury of admitting her love for fashion, then why can't you? You know what I say? I love fashion trends. I love high street and I (would) love haute couture, I love vintage pieces but I prefer brand new. I love it, and I don't have problems with it. Great style is priceless but fashion trends belong to it.
A legjobb példa Anna Dello Russo, aki egy percig sem tagadja, nem menő akar lenni, hanem divatos. A divat a mindene, a ruhái katonás rendben sorakoznak a gardróbjában és teljesen normálisnak tartja, hogy háromszor öltözik át egy átlagos napon divathetek alkalmával. Ha Anna megengedheti magának a luxust, hogy beismerje divatmániáját, te miért ne tehetnéd? Tudjátok mit? Én imádom a divatot. Mindennel, amivel együtt jár, még ha néha elsöprő vagy nyomasztó hatású is. A stílus ugyan felbecsülhetetlen, de a divat is kétségtelenül hozzátartozik.
